New Bridge has provided a unique befriending service to prisoners for sixty years.
Volunteers provide emotional support for prisoners who are isolated and lack the support of family or friends. The role of the New Bridge volunteer becomes all the more crucial given the fact that research shows maintaining ties with family and friends is important for ensuring successful resettlement and that the risk of reoffending is higher for prisoners who do not receive visits.
Volunteers help to instil the confidence needed for making positive life changes; encourage prisoners to engage positively in prison regimes and provide a bridge between the prison and reintegration into the community.
