Professor David Wilson to deliver New Bridge conference keynote

Leading Criminologist and TV presenter Professor David Wilson to give keynote address at New Bridge Foundation annual volunteer conference

Professor David Wilson, a renowned Professor of Criminology and well-know TV personality, is leading the speakers at the New Bridge Foundation annual volunteer conference with a keynote address.

Professor Wilson is Vice President of the New Bridge Foundation, which offers a bridge to the outside world to people serving prison sentences across England and Wales by offering non-judgemental social contact through volunteers to some of the most isolated and vulnerable in our society. New Bridge volunteers form connections with prisoners by letter writing and visits, which:

  • reaffirm the person’s sense of self-worth and feeling of belonging in any community
  • help to aid successful reintegration after release, reducing reoffending
  • combat loneliness and improve the mental health of those serving long prison sentences.

Professor Wilson is Emeritus Professor of Criminology at Birmingham City University and a former Prison Governor. The author of over 20 books, he is well known as a TV, Podcast and Radio Presenter.  His Channel 4 Documentary, Interview with a Murderer, won the Broadcast and Royal Television Society Awards and his recent Channel 4 series In the Footsteps of Killers was nominated for the Broadcast Award.

Professor Wilson took up the role of Vice President of New Bridge Foundation over 20 years ago.  He says, “I am passionate about the work that New Bridge does in reaching out to some of the most vulnerable and marginalised in our society and I know from practical experience how transforming their work with individual prisoners can be.  New Bridge volunteers are among the best people that I know”

The Volunteer Conference will take place on Saturday 15th July.
